Joseph: The Greatest Knight

If you want to know Jesus, you ask Mary. And what if you want to know Mary? Ask Joseph.

This is sage advice. He was, after all, her husband - holy and pure - he knew Mary intimately. He protected her in ways that every man dreams to defend the love of his life. Every danger narrowly escaped, every coin scraped together, every chiseled rock, every morsel of food, every particle of shelter, every gentle touch, every moment with Jesus was sacrificed, gathered, and spent for love of Mary. This intimacy sprung from the purest of love, born in his love for her as the Mother of his Savior, as the Handmaid of the Almighty One, as the Woman given to him by the Lord.

Joseph never utters a word in Scripture, his humility is so great that it is literally unnoticeable. He is engulfed by the mystery of Salvation, completely consumed in his care of Mary and her Son. He is not the redeemer, nor the Mother of the Redeemer, he is the guardian at the service of the Two for his own sanctification and the sanctifiation of others. This should be sounding familiar: Joseph is set aside, giving himself to Our Lady and accepting her as his own, for the sanctification of the world. In every sense of the word, Joseph was the man first consecrated to our Lady - in imitation of his Savior. How much we have to learn from this most noble Knight! He lived his consecration like no one else ever will.  And the result? He died like no one else ever will - with Mary and Jesus present at his side.

St. Joseph, with Mary, quite literally had done all things through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit for the Glory of God the Father. His death had become the great Amen.

St. Joseph, Knight of the Immaculate, Pray for us!
