For the feast of the Immaculata Conception, our General Directress (currently Marina Melis), sends out a letter to all the Fr. Kolbe Missionaries and Volunteers of the world. It is an "Auguri" for the feast, as well as an opportunity for her to share with us different insights gained in her experience leading the Institute and living her vocation. At the crossing into the Solemnity of tomorrow - indeed with the Vigil it has already begun - I wish to share with you one particular point.
A sculptor, upon seeing an abandoned block of marble in a back lot, asks his driver to pull over. "Why?" asks the driver. The artist replied, "Because I see an angel in this marble, and I will release him!" Just as the artist sees the angel in the block of marble, Our Lady sees the Her Son dwelling in each of us. We know very well that He is buried beneath stony exteriors and cold barriers, and so the Immaculate chips away: this attachment, that imperfection, this sinful habit, and that unruly disposition. Thus, She does not transform us from one thing to another, but shapes us so that the Divine within us may be released in the world. One need not fear losing oneself in Her hands, only finding God!
On this most beautiful feast day, then, we entrust each of you to the Immaculata and encourage you to surrender all to the her skilled hands.

"O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you, and for all those who do not have recourse to you, especially the enemies of Holy Mother Church and those recommended unto you."
