We're almost to the half-way mark for lent. Has it been a drag? Or has it been transforming? Have you dwelt on the "no"? Or have you rejoiced in the "yes"? You still have a few weeks to make your lent a "transforming yes" as we prepare to celebrate our new life in Christ.
On Sunday, in the Gospel, we heard the story of the Samaritan woman who yearned for life giving waters. This water, unlike the fountain of youth, is a reality found in Jesus Christ. Of course, as Christians, when we think of life giving waters we immediately think of Baptism. But why? What change actually takes place?
The transformation of Baptism not only frees us from sin, but since this is only possible by the actual presence of the Trinity within us, it also effectively unites us to God. We are adopted by Him, and adopted we are made heirs of His Kingdom. This unity with Trinity IS our strength, our hope, and our joy. It is the true mark of a Christian.
The only thing that can tear us away from this union is if we turn our back on Him. Sin wounds and wounds become deadly if not healed. We must immerse ourselves in the sacraments in preparation to renew our Baptismal promises on Easter Sunday. We must turn to Our Lady, full of Grace, and beg her intercession. We must not be afraid to change and be transformed....
May these next few weeks, then, be weeks of transformation and conversion. May they lead you to Jesus with a transforming YES.
