St. Maximilian's Success

St. Maximilian Kolbe was born on January 8, 1894, into a poor family living in a poor country. Yet, before his death at only 47 years old, Fr. Kolbe could claim to have founded the world's largest friary, an effective and expansive publishing house, and a mission in Japan - made possible thanks to his two doctorates, as well as his mastery of mathematics and organization. By all standards, human and divine, St. Maximilian was a very successful man as manifest by his joy. It was a joy so supernatural that it danced with his many pains: tuberculosis, abscesses, stress, family divisions, the death of his brothers, and all the countless struggles of daily life under oppression of various kinds.

It may seem unbelievable, but this success is within the reach of each one of us. The number one thing that made Fr. Kolbe so successful was his clear vision. He knew what he wanted, and he went after it with a tenacious will. His goal was to be a saint, and to bring others along with him for the journey. Every decision he made in his life was made in light of this ultimate goal: to be holy, united to God, a saint.

The first key to saintly success is this: HAVE A CLEAR GOAL. Know where you want to go, and constantly make reference to it when making other decisions.
