Setting the Standard... somewhere in Missouri

During our recent adventure across the country, somewhere in Missouri, while the early morning sun was beginning to light the sky behind us, we had the radio tuned to whatever station was audible. After more than 20 hours in the car (and 24 to go), it served primarily to keep the driver awake until the caffeine could have its effect.  The midwestern accents floated about the front of the car only faintly noticeable, as I wondered what a "petite pie" was, and whether there really was an "Aunt Sally" who made them, my profound meditation was interrupted by a tip on successfully keeping your New Year's resolution:

"Don't set your standards too high this New Year, and y'all be sure to reach your goal."

I laughed. So did the passenger who had been shaken from his false sense of sleep by the serious tone of the announcer (or maybe it was just the coffee finally kickin' in). We had driven well over 2,000 miles in order to spend five days with Christ and to put ourselves at His diposal, hoping to begin the New Year with our minds and hearts set on our own overarching goal: HEAVEN. And here it was-one of the first wake-ups we had as we re-entered "the real world".  We laughed, because at the time it seemed like just another soft pillow to land on in a world that needs to be thrust with confidence upon the wood of the Cross. Another ironic twist as we sped our way home to take on the world and reach for the Heavens, but as the days tick by and the glow of the monstance at Marytown seems like a dream, we have to ask ourselves:

"Are my standards and God's standards for me the same?" "What is my goal?" "Am I cuddling up with a pillow, when Christ is asking me to put my faith in the Cross?" "Am I settling for good, when He has asked me to be Perfect?"

If we had only tried to get to Phoenix, we never would have made it to Chicago...If you never aim for great things, greatness will never be yours. Man was created for Greatness.

STEP ONE: HAVE A CLEAR GOAL.
