Youth is Meant for Heroism - Not Pleasure

Thanks to a brother Knight of the Immaculata, and now member in formation with the Congregation of Jesus and Mary, these words have reverberated through my heart for a couple of days. Spoken by a Columbian priest at the Mass welcoming Steve into their Congregation, echoing the words of Pope Benedict XVI himself, and confirming MI Youth and Young Adults' call to youth around the globe --- these words light the heart on fire.

It is a fire that will either drive you to greater heroism, enkindling in you a more fervent love of God and neighbor, or it will burn the heart - smolder as you stifle the call.

Youth is a treasure. We are blessed with energy, creativity, passion, determination, and curiosity. God gives us these gifts in order to serve Him heroically, not to squander them in excessive social delights or comfort, nor in egoism and jealousy. Turning over these gifts to the Lord  we discover our mission and our peace; offering to God the fruits of our youth requires heroism. But the bottom line is this: the world needs heroes. God chooses us.

Let's set the world ablaze and enflame hearts that our younger still than ours, so that soon the world itself will be aflame with that FIRE OF LOVE that transforms all into Itself, purifying not destroying, saving souls and creating heroes wherever it spreads.
