Got the Back to School (Fall) Blues?

The beginning of the “academic year” - that is Fall - can be exciting: new books, papers, schedules, faces, and a whole year ahead to do better and have adventures. But, for many of us, after only a couple of weeks it hits us; summer vacation is over. Back to the daily grind of work and/or school.

Changes are everywhere. It can be difficult to adjust to the changes, especially if it feels like EVERYTHING is changing: co-workers/classmates, schedules/responsibilities, etc. Happily, there is something - or better yet, Someone - who never changes.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Heb. 13:8)
When it feels like the tides of change are swirling around and there is no anchor, reach out for God’s hand.  He never changes.  His love and his promises endure forever.  “The Lord’s acts of mercy are not exhausted, his compassion is not spent; they are renewed each morning—great is your faithfulness!” (Lam. 3:22-23)
But, how to hold onto that unchanging hand of strength?
- Pick a time each day to be alone with God, even for just 5 or 10 minutes. Breathe. Remember Him, and tell Him your struggles, ask for help and strength, and thank Him for all His blessings.
- Wear the Miraculous Medal as reminder of the presence of our loving Mother, Mary, who is always at our side.
- Remember you are not alone or powerless in front of your difficulties: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me through the Immaculata!” said St. Maximilian Kolbe. (cf. Phil. 4:13)
Do not fear the “back to school blues” or “constant change,” because  “God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it” (1 Cor 10:13).
