Day 1: Teen Girls' Reflection

All Rights Reserved. Fr. Kolbe Missionaries

Monday started out with much anticipation and enthusiasm. Everyone was pretty excited to get to know each other and the chance to further strengthen our faith. It took a little while for everyone to wake up, but after prayer and a much needed breakfast of pancakes and sausage the room was filled with laughter and the harmonizing voices of a few girls singing.

(Our first activity was a discussion on ways that we express and receive love.)

Father Patrick arrived and led an insightful discussion about confession.  Although the topic is fairly common knowledge for us, Father addresses the importance of review for even the simplest doctrines. He covered subjects including the importance of frequent confession and the conditions for a valid confession.

After the talk we all walked up to the chapel to meditate and attend confession if we desired. After the meditation time (filled with the lovely voices of Julie and Sierra) we headed off to a delicious lunch of spaghetti.

The rest of the afternoon was passed playing games in the sweltering sun and after a little snack to refuel ourselves we were graced with the presence of the beautiful and intelligent Mrs. Jauregui! She talked to us about the gift of baptism and our Mother Mary. The highlights of her speech include the family that baptism brings us into, and the importance in the realization that as women of the Church, Mary gives us a perfect example.

This was followed by a discussion on the World Youth Day homily, by Pope Francis. We followed this up with a "drip crayon" art project inspired by the "three words of Pope Francis" from the homily: joy, cross, and youth. It definitely brought out our inner child as our masterpieces were hung on the wall (and promptly fell down).  Afterwards we went on a rosary hike around the orchard. It was beautiful being out in nature connecting our prayers with the wonderful world that God gave to us.

Then came an inspiring Mass presided by Father Patrick, whose homily showed us how important it is to have faith and trust in God like Abraham and Father Serra.  This was followed by a supper of steak and potatoes made by our amazing cook: Anne Ryan.

Next, we did a fun, hands on activity to learn about the Miraculous Medal and how each element relates to our salvation.  Finally we ended the long day with night prayer and left to our dorms with peace in our hearts and God on our minds.

It was a day filled with surprises and plenty of new experiences - learning about God and each other.  Overall it was a great way to start off the week in God's grace and hopefully the rest of the week will be even better!
