Max - A Man of Today's Gospel

Did you know that St. Maximilian Kolbe struggled with fear and nervousness? Probably not, and I'm not sure his peers knew either, after all, they called him molasses for being sweet and slow. That's not quite how we would describe a nervous person! The reality is that fear is in every single one of us, albeit, to varying degrees. The causes can range from trama to drama and the gravity from clinical to comical. The root cause, however, is one great big: I CAN'T DO IT!!!

St. Max experienced this with great force, as he suffered scruples in the seminary and as he tried to guide Niepokalanow through the dark days of the 20's and late 30's.  His solution? Turn to your mom, the Immaculata, and go forward with absolute confidence in Her presence in and with you. This may appear to be only warm and fuzzy, ready to fall apart when all things become concrete. But then why does God, in the first reading at today's Mass... and in the responsorial... and in the Gospel remind us NOT TO WORRY!

Our God says in the first reading, "even if your own mom forgets you - I haven't and never will." I can almost here it continue, "In fact, I've given you My own Mother just to be sure you feel the love." In the responsorial, three times we pray "Rest in God alone my soul." God is saying, "I'm enough. Come". The Immaculata will lead us. And finally, in the Gospel, we hear His plea: "Do not worry about tomorrow, tomorrow will take care of itself." Because, in the words of Father Kolbe, "the same great God who cares for us today will care for us tomorrow". The love that was great enough to get us here, is great enough to get us there. Be at peace. God is with you, and so is His Mom!
