It's almost the big day - Jesus' Birthday. The world over is one big birthday bash, complete with songs, games, decorations, food, and gifts. All this we do in the name of Jesus... we sing songs of His coming; we laugh and play, reveling in the work break; we decorate from floor to ceiling, inside and out; and we eat... alot. We give gifts to our boss, friends, family, children, neighbors, teachers, and co-workers. But, if all of this is really a celebration of the birth of Jesus, then what are we giving Him?
It is a time when we are tempted to pray less and eat more, and stress all the while. This, of course, isn't really a great gift for our Great God. Practically speaking, after all who can afford to be purely cerebral with so much to do, what would be the best thing to give the Lord.
The answer is simple and universal: your Will. What does that look and feel like? A good start is finding the positive in what is apparently negative (rainy weather, flat tires, screaming children, finals, you name it...) . The reason these acts of surrender are so powerful is because it is a matter of entrusting your freedom to God. No wonder it isn't easy. It is, in a word, LOVE.
WILL TO LOVE. - St. Maximilian Kolbe
