The MI - Hope in the Church

Excerpt from the Cardinal Claudio Hummes' homily, given at the Extraordinary Assembly, October 2010

Keep in mind that they were taken from NOTES in Italian, so it isn't the fluid thought you would rightly expect from such an occassion. The fault is mine.

The Church places great hope in you, the MI.  It is aware of the need to return to the public square, seeking out persons where they live, of the urgent need for missionaries in the world.  In Latin America the Conference of Aparecida made decisions regarding evangelization. Even Europe is concerned; we are in the middle of a crisis of evangelization. We must not prepare the documents, and then return home. We must go into the trenches, that is, into this world with joy and ingenuity.  All men and women can be touched by grace when we bring them into contact with Jesus Christ!

Enchanted by Him, in love with Him, having found Him… we must communicate our life's experience, then we can also address morals. First, encounter Christ crucified and risen.

Confront the challenges of today, and do so as Militia. In this you will be known… but you must have the same love for one another that St. Maximilian did in giving his life.
