Trust in the Slow Work of God

Recently a friend reminded me of the phrase "Trust in the slow work of God". What is God's main work? Our salvation, which requires a healing so complete that it is really a transformation from a broken soul mortally wounded by original sin into a child of God, sharing in His Divine Life by grace. It is a transformation from death to life, from shattered pieces to wholeness.  In the end, we all really just want to be healed, as we're born craving that totality.  Of course, it can be a little rough waiting for the process to finish, but I think that one secret is really quite simple:  STOP WAITING.

Let the healing begin, and do not expect to be finished until we are finally in heaven with our God.

Secondly, get practical. If you want to be healed, you must believe that God wants to heal you, with the understanding of course that this healing is an interior transformation into Himself from the forgiveness of sins and the subsequent indwelling of His Divine Life. When I was in discernment I had the grace to speak with Fr. Thomas Dubay, SM (just recently deceased).  I basically, and genuinely, wanted to quit (I knew I couldn't, but that was just cause for more unrest). My thinking was that I was being asked by the Lord to carry inner turmoil, really a true lack of peace, even a cerrtain presence of fear. Fr. Dubay matter of factly stated:

"You must know that God wants you to be at Peace. You must not think that God torments the soul with anything but a yearning for Himself. You, with help, figure it out...but don't settle for anything less."

I'm still working on it, and will for the rest of my life, but the main lesson was simple: We must let Him into our lives, into hearts... intimately, if we TRUST Him, we will.

HOW? Confession. Frequent Communion. Prayer (Jesus, I trust; Jesus I trust; Jesus I don't feel like it, but I trust). Faith (Lord, I believe that You are here with me, live in me, and I accept even my brokeness on the condition that it draws me to Your infinite Mercy). Love. Acts of Charity.

Accept that you are broken. Trust that He wants you whole.
